Hostels and backpacking in Cambodia
Most backpackers come to Cambodia for the temples of Angkor, a UNESCO World Heritage site explored from the nearby town of Siem Reap. Many also visit the capital, Phnom Penh, to learn about the country's modern history, and the southern coast and islands. Distances are manageable, though road journeys can be slow.
Siem Reap has many hostels, often with pools and rooftop bars that make a welcome break after early-morning temple visits. Hostel desks commonly help arrange tuk-tuk drivers for Angkor and onward buses. Social and party-leaning hostels sit alongside quieter guesthouses, so it is easy to choose the pace you want.
