Hostels and backpacking in Honduras

Honduras sits between Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua and has a Caribbean coast, mountainous interior and the Bay Islands offshore. Backpackers mostly come for two things: Utila, a popular place to learn to dive, and Copán Ruinas, a small colonial-style town beside the Maya archaeological site of Copán.

Hostels are concentrated in those two places and are generally friendly and small, with dive shops and tour desks closely tied to the accommodation on Utila. Elsewhere, such as in larger cities, travellers tend to stay briefly between buses. Read the latest FCDO travel advice before planning a route.
