Hostels and backpacking in Singapore
Singapore is a dense, walkable city-state at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, and many backpackers pass through on the way between Malaysia, Indonesia and the rest of the region. Visitors usually spend a few days on its hawker centres, the Gardens by the Bay, the heritage districts of Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam, and the waterfront around Marina Bay.
Hostels cluster in those heritage districts, close to MRT stations and food centres. Many are modern and design-led, with pods or capsule-style beds, and some run walking tours and social evenings. Because the city is small and well connected, most travellers stay near the centre and reach everything by train or on foot.
